Stephen Pastel Interviews Sister Vanilla's Linda Reid & Ben Lurie Exclusively For Chemikal Underground
The wonderful Mr Pastel has helped us out a lot with the background to 'Little Pop Rock', so we're in his debt (again) for providing us with the transcript of this email interview he conducted with (Sister Vanilla herself) Linda Reid, along with Mary Chain alumni and SV co-creator Ben Lurie. Sister Vanilla - Can't Stop the RockSister Vanilla Uber-limited single
The uber-limited Sister Vanilla AA single featuring 'Can't Stop The Rock' (Guardian Single Of the Week) and 'What Goes Around' becomes available on Monday 26th March. The intrepid and extremely fortunate record buyers amongst you may be able to pick up a copy at highly respectable independent music retailers around the country: the lazy-arsed couch potatoes amongst you may prefer to avoid breaking into a sweat by ordering the single from our online shop...

The album comes out on April 2nd so those of you in a state of fevered expectation will have to follow a strict regime of cold showers until then. That said, there's nothing worse than frustrated anticpation for a record so we've sugared the pill by constructing another one of our (frankly exceptional) minisites! This time, the Sister Vanilla site will feature exclusive track-by-track notes from Linda as well as the lyrics (which do not appear on the abum artwork). Over and above these splendid treats the site will allow you to listen to the album, watch the video for 'Can't Stop The Rock', link to other websites, buy the album - oh for Christ's sake, you get the picture... Coming early next week so watch this space...

Sister Vanilla - Little Pop Rock Album CoverLitte Pop Rock - April 2nd
It is with barely concealed excitement that we can announce the release of ‘Little Pop Rock’ by Sister Vanilla in on April 2nd.  Featuring ex-Jesus And Mary Chain luminaries Jim Reid, William Reid and Ben Lurie with Jim and William’s sister Linda on vocals, Sister Vanilla’s Little Pop Rock is an exhilaratingly fresh pop record which also serves as a timely reminder of just how essential the seminal group from East Kilbride actually were.

There can be no doubt that the song-writing on Little Pop Rock incorporates many elements that will be familiar to Mary Chain fans, but to focus solely on the input of the estranged Reid brothers would be a disservice to the vocals of their sister Linda.  If the reconvening of Jim and William on the same album (since The Jesus And Mary Chain’s final offering Munki in 1998) is some cause for celebration, it’s the sheer strength of Little Pop Rock, the allure of Linda’s vocals and how angry, reflective and urgent the songs sound that should have you throwing an all-out street party.

With Little Pop Rock, we have an album to cherish that is every bit as good as its illustrious predecessors and if it provides us with the best opportunity of welcoming Jim and William Reid back to the table, we only have their sister Linda to thank…
